Stumble Upon : How To Start Stumbling (Part 1)
I've been thinking to help people out on how to fully utilised the power of StumbleUpon. But had been putting this off till today. When I suddenly get a surge in my blog traffic after asking few people from the great community of Blog Catalog to stumble my post. This is the time really to start sharing. :)
Why Should We Use Stumble Upon?
Stumble Upon is the new GOOGLE...ehem...well (that's true for me at least), why? because Stumble Upon simply uses the power of people recommendation. Instead of Page Rank and definitely without any complex calculation in between. Thus you will be able to discover more websites/blogs in your ares of interest that you had never crossed online before (thanks to all the stumblers for constantly stumbling new contents and giving them thumb up). Isn't that a good reason to start stumbling?
If you had post in your website/blog something nice and want people to discover or want to share it with mass audience in the blogospehere, you could just ask your friends or bloggers friends to thumb up your post (or we call it Stumble here onwards) - to start with. In a way, your friends indirectly recommend to other that this is a good post (to read, ponder, look at etc).
Once you get stumble, it's easier for others (besides your friends) to discover your post and if they love it too, they could thumb up the post again and so the process continues when somebody else found your post and stumble it too, without you even realising or working too much you soon will be building more intricate back links to your blog day by day.
So How To Start Stumbling?
1. Go to http://stumbleupon.com ---> Sign up in a simple few steps.
2. Click the orange button just below the form to start downloading SU toolbar
3. This page will prompt you to start the installation of SU toolbar by clicking the install button.
Once you finish installing you have to restart your browser so you could see the SU toolbar.
4. When you restart your browse now will have this SU toolbar.
Now you are ready to stumble.
Stumbling is easier than you think - The principle is just stumble whatever you like.
While you're surfing, you found a nice picture for example. What should you do?
Stumble it! by clicking the thumb up button - the second button on the left of the toolbar.
Alternatively, right click on the image/picture and click on StumbleUpon Photo Blog It.
This right click method only works for images tho.So if you would like to stumble an article all you have to do is click on the thumb up button - I like it, instead of the right click method.
Otherwise if the author uses images as well in his/her article you could stumble the image and add in your own review of the article when pages like this pop-up.
Sometimes you will also get a pop-up like this.
If this happens, congratulations it means you had just stumble a photo/blog/website that has never been stumble by anyone before. Fill in the form with appropriate reviews, tags and tick whether it's an adult rated content or not. Next click submit and that's it - all done!

5. When you had done with all your e-mailing, blogging and what's not and you don't have any ideas where else to surf. Just click on Stumble button- the left most button on the toolbar and you will be amazed with what you will discover. And don't forget to thumb up anything you like.
